Today's Gospel is one that
priests often used to joke about... Jesus tells us not to worry in advance
about what we are to say when we are brought before people. He said the
right thing to say would be given to us at that time.
priest joke dates from the time when we had to study and speak in
Latin. Back then, our Lord's saying, "What you are to say will be given
to you" in Latin was "dabitur vos."
So, whenever a priest preached a homily without first preparing his words, other priests would remark that he went on the "dabitur."
