We should recognize Jesus when he comes.

Friday, 2/2/18

Today is a double feast. It is the Purification of Mary and the Presentation of Jesus. The Law of Moses considered a woman unclean for the first forty days after she gave birth. and the Law prescribed that to be cleansed she come to the temple, offering either a lamb or a pair of doves.

Today we recall the Presentation of Jesus. The firstborn male was considered as belonging to God until he was bought back. (It wa not necessary that this transaction take place in the temple.)

Putting those legalities aside we should strive to appreciate the great love and admiration Mary and Joseph had for the baby.

Simeon and Anna should alert us to recognizing Jesus when he comes to us.
