One day, forty years ago a man introducing himself at Pat
Byrne came to my rectory door saying, "I have just read the prayer offered
by Solomon on completing the temple. Do you know it?"
When I said I was not
familiar with it" He said, 'If the heavens, and the highest heavens cannot
contain you, how can you pledge to dwell in this house I have built?"
He said that about the Temple he had just completed in
Jerusalem, might he not say the same
about our chapel here?
Pay Byrne loved Solomon's prayer, but I think I prefer what
Paul says in Acts 17: "God is not far
from any of us, for in him we live and breathe and have our being."
