We beg God for clean hearts.

Psalm 51 reflects David's self hatred after Nathan had brought him to an awareness of his cruelty in taking the wife of Uriah the Hittite. Are there not times when our cheap behavior has us uttering the same prayer.

When we have become hateful to ourselves we can Join David in begging God for a clean heart.

When we recall the strength of spirit that once was ours, we can join David in asking for renewal of that steadfast spirit that made us reliable in our youth.

With a dread of the world of wickedness awaiting sinners like ourselves, we say to God, "Cast me not from your presence, and your Holy Spirit take not from me."
