John and Andrew, the sons of
neighboring fishermen on the north shore of the Sea of Galilee, received permission
from their fathers to go down to help John the Baptist where he was daily taking
his stand midway across the Jordan.
John the Baptist, on seeing Jesus walk by, cried
out, "There is the Lamb of God." With that, John and Andrew left the
Baptist, to follow after Jesus at a distance.
(This story come from the
Gospel according to John where every thing he wrote had several meanings.)
Jesus asked, "What are
you looking for?" (He was questioning the two of them both as to that day
and to their future. He was questioning us eventual readers of John's Gospel.)
:Where are you
staying?"...And they stayed with him that day.(Jesus in John's Gospel, by
repeating the matter of staying within him Jesus, is interested in a permanent
relationsip with him.)
