We should not see the father of St. Francis as a heartless rich man,

Wednesday, 10/4/17

St. Francis grew up pretending he was a knight who did all things to honor his chosen lady; and for him, that chosen lady was the Lady Poverty.r

His father was a wealthy clothe merchant, and when Francis gave most of his .father's fabrics to the, poor, that father brought him to court; and in that courtroom Francis returned to his father every stiich of clothing he had from him.

Still. we should not regard his father as a heartless rich man. He too had once been an idealistic young man. He had named his son Francis because the loved French chivalry poetry. But, with a family to support, he could not put up with Francis giving away his  belongings..
