Paul reminds us of the Choirs of Angels and dying with Christ.

Let me clarify two phrases that Paul used in this section to the Colossians. First he said that Christ is superior to all Principalities and Powers. And secondly he reminded the Christians of Colossia that they had been buried with Christ.

So, first, in saying that Christ is superior to all "Principalities and Powers", he was referring to an odd form of astrology that was making inroads in Colossia. The common theory of astrology holds that our fates are determined by the planets and stars. The odd form of astrology introduced to the Colossians said that our fates are determined by "Choirs of Angels" known as Principalities and Powers.

Secondly, Paul said the people of Colossia had been buried with Christ. There he was referring to their baptisms when they saw the baptismal pool of water symbolic of the grave of Jesus. By baptism they were being baptized and buried with him.
