Luke showed that Jesus saved his by his suffering.

Saturday, 10/1/17

Today's Gospel is taken from Chapter Nine of the Gospel according to Luke. Luke  was writing for the critics of Christianity who were saying the Jesus could not have been the Messiah, since he suffered a miserable death. Luke's reply to those doubters came in two parts.

First, Luke showed that without a doubt Jesus was the Messiah. He did this both by showing how Jesus had fulfilled all of the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah, and secondly how he performed deeds that could only be accomplished with aid from God

Then, he went on to show how it was actually by this acceptance of a miserable death that Jesus showed himself to be the Messiah.

The turning point in Luke's proving that Jesus was the Messiah came in the first verse of today's Gospel. It states, "They were amazed at his very deed."

Next we see Luke's second point, that it was precisely by his willing acceptance of death that Jesus saved us. "The Son of Man is to be handed over to death."   Saturday, 10/1/17
