In sending off his disciples to preach and cure, Jesus told them, “Do not go into  pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town. Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

Was that fair?

Teaching school for many years, I taught the Gospel of Matthew to the Seventh Grade, and for every chapter  I made up questions for the kids to answer in writing. When we did this chapter, my question was, “Was it fair for Jesus to help only Jews, and not the rest of us?

From different kids I got the following answers.

Two kids wrote, “It wasn’t fair, because we all need help.”

Many kids wrote, “It was fair, because everything Jesus did had to be fair.”

Others wrote, “It was fair, because like the Bible says, ‘There is a time for everything.’ God wants us to wait for the right time to do good things, like learning to drive.”
