Saturday. 1/21/17
Our Gospel today is the shortest and strangest gospel of
all.
“The crowd
gathered, making it impossible for them even to eat. When his relatives heard
of this they set out to seize him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”
Why did they not share in the fame Jesus was bringing to
their family? How could they be so wrong as to think him out of his mind?
What are we to make of this story? Perhaps it could remind
us of times when we were completely wrong about something.
Friday, when we were inducting a new president, we could hear
people who would drop dead rather than follow the induction. We could also hear
people saying they completely hated Hilary.
As a reason for holding back on such judgments, we should
own up to the fact that we know nothng but what the Media feeds us
Long long, ago Will Rogers said, “All I know is what I read
in the newspaper.” And, it seems to me that television has more power than the newspapers
had when it come to twisting our minds from the truth.
