Here I am, Lord. I comet o do your will.

In the antiphon to the Responsorial Psalm you repeat,

Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.”

Do you think about what you are promising there? In reviewing your activities
over the last few days, would you say that doing God’s will was your major motivation?

In the Mass we refer to Jesus as the Eucharist, which is Greek for “the pleasing gift.” His
Pleasing Gift was his fixed resolve not to please himself,, but in all things to do God’s will.

Your going up to receive Communion is an outward expression of your resolve to join Jesus in his Eucharist, in promising to do the will of God.
