The readings today deal with money. In his Letter to the
people of Philippi, Paul said that he had always paid his own way, working at
making tents. However, the generosity of the people at Philippi was so insistent
and so liberal that he could not refuse it.
In places where the church gives a living wage to its
priests, those priests are not qualified to talk about the terrible pinch of
poverty. People like us, who have enough to live on should view what money we
have as God’s money that we should use as we feel God would want it used.
