The Gospel ends with Jesus saying, “The Father in heaven will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”
We tie that in with something Jesus said after the Last Supper: Chapter Fourteen, verse 26, “The Advocate. The holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name ---he will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you.”
You can do this anytime you want. It always works. First, you realize you are in God’s presence, and you put other thoughts out of our mind. Then, you ask God either for the solution of some question or for direction as to what you should do.
Yu will never hear God speaking to you. But, into yor open, receptive mind, some idea of what you should do would come to you. As Jesus promised: often the anwser will come in the form of you suddenly remembering something Jesus said, something that fits the situation.
