Writimg to thr Ephesians, Paul said that God’s master plan
for the world he crested is to “Sum up all things in Christ.”
Paul’s grand statement ties in with St. John’s saying that “all things were made for him, and through him.”
Pope Pius X, on assuming the papacy in 1903, took Paul’s
words as his motto. He said it was his object to sum up allthings in Christ.
However, he put a different twist on Paul’s words, taking them to mean that he
must “Restore all things in Christ.”
His intention was to do away with everything modern, and to
limit our religious vision to that stated at the Council of Trent three
centuries earlier. He condemned any priest who said he believed in any form of
evolution.
