Baptized in Christ

The reading says for all who are baptized into Christ there is neither slave nor free, male nor female.

Perhaps that is the most revolutionary thing about Christianity, that it does away with any one being inferior to another. Unfortunately our church has ignored this basic privilege of every soul before God. Even with those we recognized as saints, we often made much of the nobility of one's birth. We have restricted the status of women in the church.

With Paul writing that in Galatia that it was neither  slave nor free nor male nor female, I once wrote a play about a girl there who learned to read and write. She was captured by the Romans and because of her skills, she became of secretary to Emperor Trajan. She sang this song, "Christians in Galatia taught me to write, but I was made a slave by thugs who turned my days to night."
