Yesterday the Church honored St. Joachim and Anna, the
parents of Mary, but since those were not the actual names of Mary’s parents, I
didn’t bother writing about them.
Hold on there, Father! Even if those were not the actual
names of Mary’s parents, she did have parents who gave her every gene in her precious
body. When the Burmese Sisters who attend my Mass every morning arrived at church
they each wished me “Happy Parents Day!”
So I was wrong in making so little of the day honoring Mary’s
parents. We can make up for my failure by using today to think back over our
parents. With them having given you every gene in your body, you might use this
day to check yourself out, thanking you father for half of you, and thanking
your mother for the other half.
