In the Gospel Jesus warned us
against doing good for the wrong motives.
Whether we are performing righteous
acts, or giving alms, or praying, we should not do such things to be seen by
others, and to receive their praise.
If we act In such ways, we
will lose out on something far more valuable. We will lose out on being
granted a greater intimacy with God.
Jesus summed up what should
be the whole object of our existence when he said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father,
except through me.”
We should not let our
devotion to the saints, or to Mary, or even to Jesus himself interfere with that main object of our
existence, which is being brought closer to the Father.
