If you had one wish, would you wish for an understanding heart?

Saturday, 2/6/16

In today’s first reading God promised Solomon the right to make one wish, and whatever Solomon asked for, God would give him. What would each of our presidential candidates ask for? Would they go along with what Solomon on this?

“I serve you in the midst of a people so vast it cannot be numbered. Give your servant an understanding heart.

I have often taken up the word “understanding,” breaking it into two. It is the ability to see what motives are standing-under anyone’s behavior.

Solomon didn’t just ask for understanding. He asked for an understanding heart. That mean that when people would do strange things his heart would assume that they were doing what they thought best.
