No earthy substitute ould slake our thirst for the everlasting.

It’s hard to pass through life as an atheist, because as humans we cannot get rid of the feeling that there is more. Paul, in today’s reading talks about people who adopt some substitute for that “more.” They make their bellies into their gods, or for the glory to come they substitute shameful indulgences.

Paul thanked God who has led him to reject those substitutes, embracing Christ instead; then, letting Christ lead him into the full possession of eternal life.

Paul invites us to do what he did. By accepting Christ’s invitation, he has begun to experience here below a delight that far exceeds the worldly pleasures which a mortal could take up to slake his thirst for the divine.
