In his Gospel John shows us how Jesus copies the Father in leading his people to the Promised Land.

St. John concluded his Gospel by saying, “Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not written in this book. These are written that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God”
John’s Gospel shows us that Jesus was the true Son of the Father. Jesus repeated everything the Father did in taking the people to the promised Land by way of lifetimes in the desert. As Chapter One of John put it, he gave us grace in place of grace.
We should go from page to page in John’s Gospel, seeing how closely John showed us that the Son repeated what the Father did. He has a set up his dwelling that shows forth his glory. That repeats what e read in Chapter Forty of Exodus. “Moses finished all the work (of erecting God’s tent.) Then the cloud covered the meeting tent, and the glory of the Lord filled the dwelling.
One by one John tells us how Jesus too gave us bread from heaven, how he is the rock from whom all may drink. He is the guiding light that shines in the darkness.
The whole Exodus story is a metaphor for the life of a Christian. We are free to go to Jesus in his invisible meeting tent where he can again and again correct our course toward  our Promised Land.
